My grandfather JW Jones had always worked a normal job. He spent some time at Puritan-Bennett working in HR. Then later on at BMA in Kansas City as a Vice-President of Human Resources.
He always had a passion for sports, memorabilia, collectibles anything to do with the hobby. This was passed down on to me years later.

His family friends, Barbara and Walter Burks Jr. opened up "The Legacy" at the Crown Center. It originated selling historical documents, personal notes, and other historical memorabilia. My grandfather had met them through mutual interests and aided them with the sports side of things.
In 1988, JW would go on to buy the Burks out of their ownership and run "The Legacy" himself. My father and mother would be key in running the daily operations.

His biggest client was Geddy Lee, lead singer of Rush, inductee of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He would go on to help Geddy source hundreds and thousands of pieces of sports memorabilia. One of the most notable is the vast selection of Negro League Baseballs that are on display at the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City.
My grandfather would go on to run "The Legacy" for years before closing down to pursue other ventures. On November 9th, 2018 he passed away. This store is named "The Legacy" to honor the store he ran and to carry on The Legacy.
